We had a wonderful cold front blow through overnight, with a little rain, and I woke up full of energy (and a little chilly). Every change of season excites me, but there's something extra special about the approach of fall. I used to thrill to a new, blank calendar and fresh pencils (yes, yes, dork), and the appearance of funnel spiderwebs in the heavy morning dew is still a treat. The lower humidity and blue skies mean apple-picking time is coming up, and we haven't finished last year's apple butter yet! So there is quite a list of things to do today as summer winds down.
- Drop off school supplies at The Lowell Wish Project.
- Try one of the cannable tomato sauce recipes with the plum tomatoes I picked up.
- Can the salsa verde that's been piling up in the freezer (was waiting for other stuff to can, so that I didn't heat up the giant pot of water as often).
- Watch our tomatoes ripen -- some went from yellowy-green to red overnight!
- Finish a baby Tychus and make some booties too -- I've been wanting to play with short rows and see if I can't make some booties that complement Tychus. Will post pattern if it works.
- Oh yeah, check for my Ravelry invite a few more times.
- Defrost the chest freezer before it gets any fuller.
- Bike 30+ miles (a post on that later). Another benefit of cooler weather is that the biking can happen any time of day.
- Make ricotta.
- Make slides for work.
- Pick up HP7 from the library.
- Repot an overgrown devil's ivy.
By rights the slides are the most important, but also the least appealing... so I'll start those after posting this. And watch the tomatoes at the same time.
Tomorrow:
- Hit Verrill Farm up for more corn and tomatoes -- they are having a festival this very weekend -- as well as milk, bread, etc.
- Make yogurt
- Make apple butter muffins -- a batch of 12 goes in the fridge and makes a week's worth of "fast food" breakfasts
- Try to make a tarte tatin sort of thing with the tomatillos, or at least make the crust and put it in the fridge for a weeknight.
- Work on my boat? The weather's perfect for it.
- Everything that didn't get done today, of course.
The poison ivy went from lush, oily green to flagrant red on Monday. I'll try to get a picture of it on today's ride. That's a good yarn color.
I still have a loooong ravelry wait ahead of me (because I was the smartypants who decided knitting blogs weren't for me anymore and didn't learn about it until later).
Boat?? What boat?? I'm curious!
